I am Matt Guernsey, the founder of Guernsey Advisory. I am a 20 year veteran of the energy and climatetech industries, helping clients scale business concepts, build high-performing teams, and bring innovative solutions to market.

I bring to my clients a foundation of technical expertise from my mechanical engineering undergraduate degrees, my business training from my Masters degree, and the experience of a multi-decade career in the industry. I have worked with the smallest of startups just getting off the ground and making big decisions about first moves, to the largest of utilities and government agencies making big decisions about investments and programs worth billions.

My consulting career began at Navigant (now Guidehouse) solving grid-integration challenges and supporting R&D and innovation programs for utilities, corporations, and government agencies. Over time that has grown and expanded, to include renewable energy project developers and increasingly early stage businesses.

In 2021 I left my corporate consulting job (in typical pandemic fashion!) to start Guernsey Strategic Advisors and also to start a passion project of mine — Arlington Brewing Company! In 2024 I stepped away from day-to-day operations of the brewery to once again focus full time on helping clients bring meaningful solutions to the energy and climate challenges of our day.

Guernsey Strategic Advisors has grown and expanded. I am proud to have now served dozens of clients (see about page) and 100s of individual team members that have passionately worked to solve the myriad challenges we face in the industry.

Our primary focus here is on early-stage businesses and the broader startup ecosystem. This includes both technical and management consulting solution offerings across marketing, finance, product, operations, and of course a multitude of cross-functional topic areas — our real sweet spot.
